The fundamental questions motivating my research agenda are, why do employees perceive similar leader behaviors and workplace contexts differently, and what are the consequences of such dissimilar interpretations? To address these overarching questions, my research primarily focuses on three streams: (1) the contradictory influences of leader behaviors on followers, (2) employees’ well-being and performance, and (3) cognitive flexibility and creativity.
I build upon and extend theories from diverse fields (e.g., management, psychology, and physiology) to explore research questions in these streams. I also adopt various methodologies (e.g., experiments, surveys, and meta-analyses) to rigorously investigate my ideas.
The contradictory influences of leader behaviors on followers
Within this research stream, my research explores mechanisms underlying how specific leader behaviors can induce different reactions from the same followers as well as across different followers.
Employees’ well-being and performance
In this line of research, I explore how well-being and performance influence each other and/or are affected by complex workplace dynamics.
Cognitive flexibility and creativity
In this line of research, I explore how cognitive flexibility and creativity are affected by employees’ different perceptions of workplace dynamics.
